Silverstream Technologies opens Shanghai base and kickstarts recruiting for bright minds wanting to decarbonise shipping Silverstream Technologies 2021-12-10 08:57

Silverstream Technologies was founded over a decade ago, with the aim of creating a truly unique, radical and innovative clean technology to significantly reduce emissions across the shipping industry's global fleet.

The Silverstream® System, now the market leading, fuel agnostic air lubrication technology for the maritime industry, creates a carpet of microbubbles that coats the entire flat bottom of a vessel. As a result, frictional resistance between the hull and the water is decreased –reducing fuel consumption and associated net emissions by a proven 5-10%.

From disruptive start-up in 2010 to undisputed market leader today, the third-party validation and unrivalled efficiency savings of the System, coupled with ever-pressing global environmental regulations, has propelled the company's rapid scaling journey.

The latest order of the System, with shipping giant MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, is the largest ever order of air lubrication technology and will save MSC up to 1.6m tonnes of CO2 and over €250m in estimated fuel costs. The System has also been adopted by market leaders including Maersk, Shell, Carnival, Grimaldi, Vale and others.

To support its incredible global expansion, Silverstream will be opening a modern new office in Shanghai on 1st January 2022. Located in the financial district of Lujiazui, the office will enable Silverstream to be at the heart of the shipping industry and near some of its most important partners and customers.

To further support the shipping industry's decarbonisation pathway, Silverstream is looking for the brightest minds in shipping to join its diverse, global team of maritime industry experts, engineers and naval architects in Shanghai. Do you have what it takes to be an innovator?
