The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) has renewed its Marine Partnership with Malaysia-based international offshore energy facilities and services business, Bumi Armada Berhad (BAB).

Marine Partner status is awarded by the IMarEST to organisations that demonstrate a continued commitment to professional development in the marine sector. The IMarEST works with BAB to promote professionalism and technical leadership through continuing professional development, knowledge sharing and learning opportunities within BAB.

With headquarters in Kuala Lumpur and a presence in over 29 countries, BAB offers Floating Production and Operations (FPO); and Offshore Marine Services (OMS), which encompasses Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) and Subsea Construction (SC) activities. It is also one of the largest Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) players in the world.

Gary Leong, Head of HSSEQ at BAB, said: “Our partnership with the IMarEST enables us to be part of an industrial network of experts across the world and allows us to keep abreast of new regulations and best practices, ensuring we continuously improve our business. It's vital that, as an oil and gas provider, we ensure our workforce of over 1,100 have the right capability and experience to carry out their work, in a safe and effective way, and we take time to review the competencies of our staff on an annual basis. This, teamed with creating a plan for our staff to enable the development of their capabilities, keeps us at the forefront of the industry and ensures our people are the best in the business.”

Gwynne Lewis, CEO at the IMarEST, commented: “Our relationship with BAB demonstrates perfectly how our Marine Partnerships can benefit businesses and organisations that want to be top-class employers, with the strength to attract and retain people in the marine sector. Not only does upskilling the workforce improve performance, but it also shows the commitment that a business like BAB has to its people.”
