Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), a Singaporean shipowner, is scrambling to order container ships in New Times Shipbuilding. This also makes New Times gain the second order of container ships this year.

EPS has placed an order for 4+2 7,000TEU container ships at New Times, with a total value of $420 million. The order for the four container ships had been signed as early as May 1, with two of the vessels to be delivered by the end of 2023 and the other two in 2024.

The new vessel will be chartered to feeder liner company X-Press Feeders for a period of five to seven years.

This is the first time in recent years that EPS has chosen a Chinese shipyard to order a container ship. Currently EPS holds orders for 50 ships with an estimated 6.54 million dwt, including 24 container ships.

In May this year, EPS just ordered three 210,000 DWT LNG-powered newcastlemax bulk carriers at New Times Shipbuilding and in October last year ordered two 208,000 DWT LNG-powered bulk carriers. There are also two 110,200 DWT product tankers in EPS's hand-held orders for construction in New Times.
