U.S. bulk carrier owner Eagle Bulk has announced the acquisition of two high-spec ultramax bulk carriers built in 2015 and equipped with scrubbers for $44 million.

The two vessels, which will be renamed "Antwerp Eagle" and "Valencia Eagle", will adopt SDARI-64 design by Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry and are expected to be delivered to Eagle Bulk's fleet in the third quarter of 2021.

In addition, Eagle Bulk will sell the handymax carrier "Tern" built in 2003 for US$9.7 million. Eagle Bulk said that the sale is expected to be completed in July, before the ship is required to enter the dry dock for inspection and the necessary ballast water treatment system (BWTS) installation due date.

The deals will bring Eagle Bulk's fleet to 53 ships with an average age of 8.7 years. Eagle Bulk has implemented a comprehensive fleet renewal and growth program, acquiring 29 modern vessels and divesting 20 of its oldest and least efficient vessels.
