Singapore shipowner Eastern Pacific Shipping has confirmed that it will place orders for the LNG-powered bulk carriers in New Times Shipbuilding.

On May 4, EPS announced that it has signed a chartering contract with Rio Tinto for 3+3 210,000 DWT LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers. The new vessels will be built in New Times and delivered starting in the second half of 2023.

The six LNG-powered bulk carriers, which cost about $67 million each, will be chartered to Rio Tinto on a 10-year term to transport iron ore from Australia to China, according to shipbroker Banchero Costa.
