Qinhuangdao port, a barometer of China's coastal thermal coal market, handled 237.7 million tonnes of cargoes in 2017, a year-on-year climb of 32.32%, said Qinhuangdao Port Co., Ltd on January 9.

Qinhuangdao port, located east of Qinhuangdao city in Hebei province, is the largest coal transfer port in the world and a major hub of China's coal shipment from the North to the South.

It mainly relies on coal supplies through Daqin railway that connects Datong, a main mining region in top coal province Shanxi, with Qinhuangdao port.
