Ship Emissions in All Ports of China ECA be Limited 2018

From January 1, 2018, ships berthing in the controlled areas in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) waters should use sulfur content of ≤0.5% m / m of fuel. Since January 1, 2019, ships must use sulfur content of ≤ 0.5% m / m of fuel when her reach and out the above area.

Li Wei, deputy director of the Shandong Maritime Safety Administration's Anti-fouling Department, said that the "Implementation Plan of Ships Emission Control Area in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) Waters" promulgated by the Ministry of Transport (hereinafter referred to as "Plan") will be carried out on January 1, 2018.

The emission control areas in China were created to reduce the levels of ship-generated air pollution and focus on the sulphur content of fuels. The three areas are the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea.

At the same time, the maritime administration department will inspect the use of low-sulfur fuel of the arriving vessels, carry out the effectiveness verification of the alternative measures for vessels and jointly supervise the ship's fuel supply units with the relevant departments and investigate and process the vessels or units that violate the regulations according to law.

The implementation of the “Plan” will significantly improve the air quality of the major coastal ports and inland waterways within the emission control areas and promote the energy conservation and emission reduction of ships thus to promote the development of green shipping. According to the environmental monitoring data of the pre-implementation of the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta Marine Emissions Control Area, the marked effect is very clear.
