China's coal shipment via railway edged up 0.9% compared with a year earlier in the first four months, marking its mild comeback to positive growth after decline in the first three months, according to the state planner.

The country shipped a total 791 million tonnes of coal via railway in January-April this year, showed data from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The four months saw a slow year-on-year rise of 0.9%, compared with a drop of 1.4% over January-March.

In April, rail coal deliveries came in at 193 million tonnes, rising 7.8% from the year prior but down 3.02% from March, the NDRC data showed.

In January-April, China produced a total 1.11 billion tonnes of raw coal, up by 0.6% from a year earlier.

As of end-April, major power plants in the country held 74.72 million tonnes of coal, enough to cover 21 days of consumption.
