China's rail cargo shipment rises 10% on yr in Apr xinde marine news 2019-05-31 14:00


China's cargo shipment via railways registered a strong growth of 10% in April compared with the same period last year, showed data from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). 
 
Total rail cargo deliveries reached 336 million tonnes in April, data showed, alongside recovered demand for bulk cargoes amid resilient operations in building sector and increased investment in railways. 
 
Over January-April, rail cargo deliveries amounted to 1.35 billion tonnes, a year-on-year rise of 4.6%. 
 
China's fixed-asset investment (FAI) in railway construction jumped 15% year on year to 162.3 billion yuan in the first four months this year. The FAI in April hit a new high of 61.1 billion yuan. 
 
State-owned coal miners shipped 97.67 million tonnes of coal during the period, climbing 5.5% on the year, adding up to a total 383.98 million tonnes in January-April. 
 
In the first quarter, the average cargo loading in each month has exceeded 60,000 wagons per day, creating the best record since 2016. Rail cargo throughput in March edged up 0.7% from a year earlier to 245 billion tonnes per km. 
 
In April, the road cargo freight rose by 5.6% from the preceding year to 3.56 billion tonnes. Shipment increased 5.8% to 11.75 million tonnes in the first four months.
