Modernization of ship and offshore classification accelerated with more than 100,000 electronic certificates issued to DNV GL-classed vessels and about 60,000 technical questions routed by machine learning systems directly to a DNV GL technical expert.
DNV GL had rolled out IMO-compliant electronic class and statutory certificates to mark a historic milestone in leveraging digitalisation to continuously improve customer experience.
Digitally signed electronic documents are becoming easier, more secure and more common in all industries, shipping included.
DNV GL is the first classification society to achieve full-scale production capability of electronic certificates. This enables issuance of electronic certificates on the entire DNV GL fleet of vessels at the first periodical survey after the roll out, subject to respective Flag acceptance.
DNV GL said that the maritime business area had a relatively strong performance the two last quarters.
Global seaborne trade ticked upwards and DNV GL was able to capture 24% of the newbuild ship and offshore classification market at a time when shipyard activity rose sharply. DNV GL thereby consolidates its position as the world’s leading classification society.
New standards and guidelines released for cyber security and autonomous ships, DNV GL said.
