SPG reports huge growth in 2022

The cargo throughput of Shandong Port Group (SPG) exceeded 1.6 billion metric tons this year, the most in the world and a 6.4 percent year-on-year increase, while the port group handled a total container throughput of 37 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), the third most in the world and an 8.7 percent increase over the same period last year.

The outstanding performance is largely due to SPG's efforts to build itself into an international shipping hub in Northeast Asia, as well as a world-class seaports operator.

Against the backdrop of a global pandemic and major changes to the international status-quo, SPG has accelerated efforts to formulate a new development model achieve high-quality development.

The group has attached great importance to balanced development among its ports. This year it has opened 37 container routes, bringing its total number of shipping routes to 327, which includes 233 foreign trade routes. It has also built 32 inland ports and launched 82 sea-rail combined transport routes. This year, its sea-rail combined transportation capacity surpassed 3 million TEUs, the highest in the country.

Since its establishment in 2019, SPG seeks to foster a new development model and pursue high-quality development.
