SPG to expand marine science development with partners

On May 9, Shandong Port Group (SPG), one of the world's largest port operators, signed strategic collaboration agreements with Shandong Academy of Marine Sciences (SAMS) and Qingdao Marine Equipment Inspections & Testing Group (Qingdao NMEI Group) in Qingdao, Shandong province, East China.

The three parties agreed to make the most of their resources, information, and technological advantages by conducting in-depth research in fields including marine science and the construction of smart green ports.

SPG has worked hard to develop into a world-class smart and green port since its inception. SPG was chosen by the Ministry of Transport as the country's first pilot port group for constructing smart ports in 2020, and in 2021, SPG's Qingdao Port built the world's first air-track intelligent transport system, marking a significant step forward in China's construction of intelligent and environmentally friendly ports.

Efforts have also been made to cultivate high-level scientific and technological platforms and talent teams, with Qingdao Port's engineering team being named the "Qingdao Exemplars". The group has also implemented a host of policies that encourage the commercialization of scientific and technological discoveries, and all of which have shown to be beneficial for advancing innovation.

SAMS and Qingdao NMEI Group will help SPG improve its innovation ability in marine science in such areas as platform construction, major projects, collaborative innovation and talent development to help Shandong transform into a powerful maritime province.
