The MARINE INTERIORS Cruise & Ferry Global Expo showcases the latest trends in interior design, equipment and technology for passenger ships. From 6 to 8 September 2023, the industry’s Who’s Who meets in Hamburg for the event, which is co-located with Seatrade Europe.
Indirect lighting in haunches and niches makes cabins appear larger; illuminated mirrors increase well-being; cool colour tones on ceilings and walls instil a sense of calm and spaciousness: With sophisticated means like these, suppliers immerse cabins, lounges and other spaces in the perfect light. Specialised exhibitors at the MARINE INTERIORS Cruise & Ferry Global Expo are masters of the lighting and colour 101. “We are the meeting place of the cruise industry’s Who’s Who," says Christoph Lücke, Project Head of the MARINE INTERIORS Cruise & Ferry Global Expo at Hamburg Messe und Congress. “We bring together suppliers for passenger ship interiors and representatives of cruise and ferry lines, shipyards and interior design studios.” The trade fair takes place on the Hamburg Messe und Congress (HMC) exhibition campus from 6 to 8 September 2023, co-located with the Seatrade Europe Cruise and River Cruise Convention. Says Lücke: “For several days, Hamburg will be Europe’s cruise capital.”
Innovative, stylish, safe
Also on board MARINE INTERIORS is one of the world-leading lighting system manufacturers. The family-owned company Hera installs between 4,000 and 8,000 light-emitting diodes (LED) on a typical cruise ship. This includes items such as wall-integrated lights, LED panels for photo and sign backlighting, or swivelling LED recess downlights for ceilings. At MARINE INTERIORS, Hera will also demonstrate its innovative Sky Window, a lighting solution that simulates daylight in areas such as windowless spa rooms.
Electrical equipment specialist Kaiser will likewise exhibit its latest products, such as the certified B15 PROTECT® series of wall and ceiling junction boxes featuring cable seals and multiple protection layers to ensure fire-proof cable routing in sandwich panels conforming to protection class B15. The company’s system components are installed in yachts and cruise ships globally. “I am certain that we will attract many customers during MARINE INTERIORS and succeed in establishing a new standard for cable lead-throughs in ship walls with protection class the way we did in the case of electrical installations in B15 walls,” says Arne Zeidler, Global Key Account Manager Marine at Kaiser.
Design is the central theme
Fire protection and safety are factors of pivotal importance on board ferries and cruise ships. Any company that is new to the maritime sector or is planning to enter it should consider visiting the conference session “IMO Certification for Beginners” (07/08 Sept.) to get relevant information. Markus Hill, Head of Sales at the independent engineering and consulting firm DMT, will provide insights into the regulatory jungle. Ship outfitting is subject to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
A special focus at this year’s MARINE INTERIORS is on a series of conferences, including several innovative formats. For example, interior design for ferries will be a featured topic. When Tal Danai, Founder and CEO of ArtLink, steps up to the podium for the talk session “Aesthetics of the Visual”, the event will take an almost philosophical turn: Together with Vienna professor Helmut Leder, he will explore the question whether art and design can improve the passenger experience. The importance of lighting is likely to be part of that conversation.
“Our high-profile conference programme, organised by major players of the industry such as CLIA, Partner Ship Design, Seatrade Cruise Review, ArtLink, Ship & Offshore, VDMA, DMG Group and JOI Design, promises to deliver formative input for the future of passenger shipping,” says project manager Christoph Lücke.
