MPA Statement in response to Fire Onboard A Liberia-flagged tanker at eastern part of Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was alerted on 11 July 2023 at about 10pm (Singapore time) that smoke was observed at the accommodation area onboard a Liberia-flagged tanker, anchored at the eastern part of Singapore. The tanker was not carrying cargo at that time.

An MPA patrol craft and four Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) marine fire-fighting and rescue vessels were despatched to render assistance. The fire was put under control shortly after.

All crew were reported to be safe and no pollution was observed. There were no Singaporeans on board the tanker. There was no disruption to port operation.

MPA takes a serious view of safety incidents in the Port of Singapore. Firm actions on vessel and personnel may be taken, including detention of vessel, if vessel is found not in compliance with the necessary safety regulations.

MPA and SCDF are investigating the incident.
