3.Alfa Laval makes strategic appointment in UK and Ireland Marine Division to support shipping's new directions towards sustainability


Alfa Laval has announced the appointment of Tristan Matthews to the role of Head of Marine Division for the UK & Ireland, effective March 1, 2022.
 
This strategic appointment represents the appointment of the first dedicated Marine Division Manager in the UK and Ireland region by Alfa Laval. In the new role, Mr Matthews will hold responsibility for driving partnerships with leading UK customers in the marine industry with a strong focus on sustainability, decarbonization, future fuels and alternative technologies.

5. Chinese shipyards won another big order for 12 ships!


Italian shipping giant Grimaldi has ordered two more 7,800 CEU ro-ro cargo ships at a "high price" in China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing), and 10 more PCTCs at the shipyard owned by China Merchants IndustryThe two orders will be worth a combined $1.2 billion.

6. MAN PrimeServ Wins Dual-Fuel Retrofit


MAN Energy Solutions’s after-sales division, MAN PrimeServ, has announced the signing of a contract to retrofit two LPG carriers for Tianjin Southwest Maritime Ltd. – the Chinese liquefied-gas carrier operator. The COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Guangdong) yard will host the respective conversions of the individual MAN B&W 6G60ME-C engines aboard the ‘Gas Gemini’ and ‘Gas Aquarius’ to dual-fuel MAN B&W 6G60ME-LGIP units capable of running on LPG. The two vessels will be retrofitted in parallel, beginning May 30th 2023.

9. Louis Dreyfus Armateurs will equip one of its vessels with three bound4blue's suction sails


The collaboration between bound4blue and LDA emerged more than three years ago, due to the constant search by the French shipowner to optimize its operations and its costs and, above all, reduce the carbon footprint of its fleet.
 
Both companies worked together during 2020 on a preliminary project to assess the viability of the installation on one of the shipowner's vessels. In parallel, the financing to launch the project has been closed, with the support of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Acceleration Program, allowing to install bound4blue's technology on one of LDA's vessels during 2023.

10. CMA CGM and Electrolux make significant move toward sustainable shipping


Today, the CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, and Electrolux, a leading global appliance company, announced the conclusion of an agreement to ship 40,000 TEUs of household appliances through CMA CGM's CLEANER ENERGY LNG solution. CMA CGM's low-carbon offering CLEANER ENERGY LNG will allow the cargoes to be shipped on CMA CGM's dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels, while also benefitting from a share of guarantee of origin biomethane, allowing a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions on a well-to-wake basis (entire value chain).
