The booming ro-ro market is attracting more and more foreign ship owners to order new ships in Chinese shipyards.
Italian shipping giant Grimaldi has ordered two more 7,800 CEU ro-ro cargo ships at a "high price" in China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing), and 10 more PCTCs at the shipyard owned by China Merchants Industry. The two orders will be worth a combined $1.2 billion.
Since last year, Chinese shipyards have taken orders for 64 PCTCs, far higher than Japanese shipyards (13 ships) and Korean shipyards (2 ships). Up to now, there are a total of 82 orders for PCTCs in the world, including 65 from China, 15 from Japan and 2 from South Korea.
