H2EXPO & CONFERENCE: Start with a large conference programme

As a parallel event to the world renown trade fair WindEnergy Hamburg, the four-day H2EXPO & CONFERENCE will be addressing everything important about the energy carrier of the future, green hydrogen. From September 27th to 30th, in addition to the exhibition area, there will also be an extensive conference programme in Hall A2 of the Hamburg Exhibition Center. The topics shall range from globally emerging value chains to the comprehensive expansion of local infrastructure, and from guidelines and funding programmes to the harmonisation of international standards. With a day ticket, professionals will get access to both trade fairs and can use the entire programme to network with others and extend their training.

How can we react flexibly and climate-neutrally to rapidly evolving market conditions in the energy sector, whether it be regionally, nationally or internationally? Who are the key players and which technologies are already market ready? Action needs to be taken quickly to mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure the supply of climate-neutral energy sources. However, this necessitates cross-border and cross-industry dialogue, and this is just what the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE will offer via its outstanding conference programme. Top speakers from politics, business and science are expected to discuss topics such as regulation, technologies and the future of green hydrogen. Business perspectives, energy transport and storage, regulations and support programmes as well as sales markets will all be addressed. Organisers include partners of H2EXPO & CONFERENCE, the VDMA (Association of German Machine and Plant Builders), EEHH (Renewable Energies Cluster Agency Hamburg), DWV (German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association), industry experts in renewable energies, and Recharge. Jürgen Pfeiffer, among others, will serve as a moderator.

Bernd Aufderheide, CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress, explains: "Here in Hamburg, politics, business, science and energy producers are working hand in hand to promote decarbonisation in the north. With the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE in Hall A2, we represent the entire value chain for the hydrogen energy source and provide trade fair visitors the opportunity to get a well-grounded overview of the market.”

The main topics of the fair will change day-to-day on the H2EXPO & CONFERENCE stage in Hall A2. The conference programme starts at 2 p.m. on September 27th with a keynote address by Ivan McKee, Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise in the Scottish Government. This shall be followed by the first panel discussion with the opening conference and the question "Geopolitics, security of energy supply, and supranational cooperation: What possibilities does regenerative hydrogen have to offer?”. Components of the hydrogen infrastructure will then be discussed along with solutions for storing and transporting hydrogen.

On Wednesday, September 28th, the EEHH and DWV will focus on the regional hydrogen projects and co-operations that are currently being implemented in the Hamburg area and northern Germany. At 10.15 a.m., the series of lectures shall start with an overview of the topic "H2 - What’s happening in Hamburg and Northern Germany?". Reports on regional renewable energy supply as the key to hydrogen production will be the focus of the stage presentations. The role of offshore wind in H2 production and the associated secure energy supply in Germany will also be examined.

The lectures on the third day of the fair, September 29th, will look beyond northern European hydrogen projects. These lectures are be about the bigger picture overall. The media partner of WindEnergy Hamburg, Recharge, will present  specifically what needs to happen for the green hydrogen industry to unleash its enormous potential. Information shall also be provided about the European regulation for the upcoming H2 market ramp-up, as well as about the design of support programmes for importing hydrogen from Europe as a new Hydrogen Union. Establishment of zero-emission pan-European mobility will also be a topic for discussion. The question posed: "What do we need to expand green hydrogen mobility?"

Finally, on Friday September 30th, Europe will be the focus. We shall take stock of the situation and think ahead. Claus Ulrich Selbach, Head of the Maritime & Technology Fairs Division, summarises: “Green hydrogen is one of the pillars of Power-2-X and the decarbonised energy supply of the future. During the trade fair, we will witness how new networks emerge and how cross-border alliances are formed for the development of pioneering hydrogen projects. I'm looking forward to it.”
