MSI Shipping Outlook China 2022 was held online

On July 21, the Maritime Strategies International (MSI) and Xinde Marine News jointly organized MSI Shipping Outlook China 2022 Online Seminar. In total, nearly 310 attendees from more than 200 companies joined the webinar and more than 1000 wathers by live streaming.
 
For nearly 40 years MSI has provided independent, model based, market forecasts and advisory services for its diverse client base which includes governments, financial institutions, shipowners, shipyards, brokers, investors, insurance companies, classification societies, regulators, accounting firms, etc.

For MSI’s inaugural online seminar with Xinde Marine, Jianjun Wang, Regional Director, Asia, together with MSI Directors Mr. Will Fray, (dry bulk carriers), Mr. Tim Smith, (oil tankers), and Mr. Daniel Richards, (containerships), present MSI’s latest sector market outlooks.
 
At 14:30, the host, Gary Chen, Founder & CEO of Xinde Marine News, started the seminar online. Firstly, Gary gave a brief introduction of the seminar. Then Jianjun Wang introduced MSI and his colleagues in London.
Mr. Will Fray, expert of dry bulk carrier, mainly introduced dry bulk from two aspects: how we assess dry bulk market and key risks outlook.He specified that dry bulk carrier market balances near-term outlook is weaking. In this case, improvement in market balances relies on scrapping uptick in 2023/24.and the dry bulk freight earnings, outlook bearish for 2023/24, particularly for Handysize.
Mr. Tim Smith, expert of oil tanker, talked about China crude imports key, 'Available' vs. actual capacity, Fundamentals, utilisation and earnings and asset price forecast for specific vessels etc to introduce oil tanker market.
Mr. Daniel Richards, expert of container ships, introduced containerships from some aspects: Containership markets remain very, very strong – but there have been signs of weakness; 2022 to see very limited container trade growth, 2023 could see slow recovery; Containerships should see limited EEXI impact, but CII potentially far more disruptive; Markets will return to ‘normal’ in 2024, but there are upside risks to the forecast etc.
Mr. Jianjun Wang, Regional Director, Asia, introduced environment and newbuilding through the environmental regulatory timelines continues to accelerate, with an increasing focus on GHG; Current status of alternative fuels; Ship-specific indicators available through MSI HORIZON; China, Korea, Japan are leading new contracts winning etc.

In the final Q&A session, the four experts of MSI answered questions from Gary and other attendees. This was MSI's first online seminar for the Chinese market and it got off to a great start.
