Freight fallen for 14 weeks, 78 sailings cancelled in next five weeks!

According to China's weekly export container shipping index released by Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) on April 22, China's weekly export container shipping index fell slightly in the week from April 18 to April 22, with freight rates on most ocean going shipping line falling.

On April 22, China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) was 3109.78, decrease 0.6% from last week. The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 0.8% to 4,195.98 from last week.

According to Drewry's weekly cancelled sailings tracker published on April 22, across the major trades: Transpacific, Transatlantic and Asia-North Europe & Med, 78 cancelled sailings have been announced between weeks 17 and 21, out of a total of 725 scheduled sailings, this represents 11% cancellation rate.

Drewry said continued uncertainty and poor visibility in the shipping market is making it difficult for cargo owners to plan ahead. To help smooth potential disruptions, businesses should seek to build positive relationships and encourage open lines of communication with their freight forwarding partners.
