China's logistics throughput grows by 7.2 pct during first two months

China's logistics throughput in January and February grew by 7.2 percent year on year, according to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing on Thursday.

The logistics volume in the two months was notably higher than the same period of 2019 before the onslaught of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The transportation of total industrial goods grew by 7.5 percent year on year, with high-tech manufacturing products and equipment manufacturing products showing outstanding growth.

The logistics demand of consumer goods manufacturing industry in the first two months increased by 9.7 percent year on year. The online retail sales of physical goods increased by 12.3 percent year on year, maintaining a rapid growth trend.

"The logistics operation in the first two months maintained the trend of steady recovery. It showed a relatively good start of the year. The growth rate was higher than the figure in 2021. Generally, a good start with stable performance is the basic trend of the logistics operation," said Cai Jin, vice president of the federation.

Despite the trend of stable recovery, China's logistics sector is still confronting many challenges induced by the headwinds and adversities of the lingering pandemic and volatile global geopolitical landscape, the officials said.

"We are seeing the obvious trend of recovery in the logistics sector. But still, we are confronting many problems in certain regions and industries. Besides, the volatile global situation has caused fluctuating prices of bulk raw materials, which brings pressure of rising cost to our import. But our import still maintains a relatively large scale," said He Hui, assistant to president of the federation.
