Introduction:
The Captain’s Table Innovation Challenge, is Hong Kong’s leading pitch competition focused on startups in the maritime and logistics industry.
The challenge, now in its 3rd year, is organized by not-for profit, Young Professionals in Shipping Network (Hong Kong) Limited. The objective of the challenge is clear: to build a sustainable future for maritime by connecting innovators to the corporates with the purpose of finding solutions to current and future industry specific problems. In a tech space that is fast filling up, The Captain’s Table sets itself apart by its not-for-profit nature.
This year we are featuring 8 finalists, from around the world, with innovative solutions in the following categories

eyeGauge: The startups seek to solve the twin problems of digitisation and transparency in the maritime industry through the use of a cost efficient and non-invasive digital twin solution that can make smart any ship.

Bingoo Robot: This startup wants to make work at heights safer for crew onboard through the use of magnetic robots used for dry cargo hold cleaning with remote inspection cameras. With the support of the R&D team who have been experts for Chinese National Programs for High Technology Research and Development, their magnetic robots have been already been applied in lateral industries like petrochemical and power and the team is now targeting to enter the maritime industry.

Steele Environmental: A unique catalyst added to fuel which results in increased fuel efficiency and reduces the number of emissions emitted during the fuel combustion process. According to the company, their product reduces CO2 emissions from 9% - 30% and NOX emissions from 15-30%.

DanCompliance is a web portal designed to make it easy for maritime companies to stay updated on the regulatory requirements that apply for their products and services both on and offshore. Simple, you think? Not quite when you are in the industry.

OK Positive Ltd: A mental health platform that provides onshore and offshore crew with bespoke tools to each user profile through AI and machine learning while providing anonymised analytical insight for organisations to make positive proactive change.

13 Mari: Inspired by a trip to the Caribbean, this company seeks to tackle decarbonisation in the industry by reducing drag encountered by a vessel during a voyage. How? Through the use of an element measuring 1% of the overall length of a vessel’s length. Their trials have seen savings equivalent to two weeks of free steaming per year.

Sol-X: This is a Behavioural Based Safety company centered on human factors. Combining deep industry knowledge with IIoT capabilities and predictive AI, the startup’s focus is on improving safety and compliance outcomes, increasing operational productivity and enhancing crew wellbeing through the use of workflow solutions and wearable devices.

Everimpact: A solution which tracks carbon emissions, certifies their reduction, and monetise them on the voluntary carbon market. These revenues allow the high emitting sectors, like maritime, to fund additional carbon emission reductions. The team has 8 pilots with various European cities and was the winner of City Finance Lab 2020 as well as one of the Top 11 of Google or Startups Accelerator for SDGs. Now, the team has their sights firmly set on the maritime industry.
