China's shipbuilding orders increased without increasing profits in the first nine months

On October 12, China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry released the economic performance data of the shipbuilding industry in the first nine months of this year. Data show that in the first nine months of this year, the three shipbuilding indicators of China's shipbuilding enterprises increased significantly.

From January to September 2021, China's shipbuilding completed 30.34 million DWT, up 6.2% year on year. The newly accepted ship orders reached 54.156 million DWT, up 223.3% year on year. By the end of September, hand-held ship orders reached 92.439 million DWT, up 32.3% year on year and up 30% from the end of 2020.

In the first nine months of this year, China accounted for 45.6% of the world's shipbuilding completion, 53.2% of the world's new orders, and 47.3% of the world's hand-held orders, maintaining the world's largest market share.

Since the beginning of this year, thanks to the global economic recovery and the improvement of international trade demand, the global shipping market has gradually picked up, and new ship orders represented by container ships have been rapidly increased. However, behind the joy of the shipyards, it is due to the sharp rise of raw material costs, shipyards are under the pressure of "orders increased without increasing profits".
