Yang Ming announced a 3-7% wage increase for its crew

At present, the demand for shipping continues to be fierce, and the freight rates are extremely hot. Although the freight rates of trans-Pacific routes have declined, they are still at a high level. In contrast to the booming market, the shortage of international seafarers has become a key factor restricting the development of the industry. For this reason, salary increases for crew members have become a sensitive topic for some time.

"Salaries are high in the shipping industry, but they will go higher," Zheng Zhenmao, chairman of Yang Ming, said at a meeting celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Captains' Association. Yang Ming is preparing to raise wages for its crew by 3-7%.

Zheng Zhenmao said that Yang Ming attaches great importance to the efforts of crew and captain. At present, major ports around the world are severely congested, and ship scheduling is not easy. The safety of crew is related to the safety of ship and cargo.

In fact, Yang Ming has already raised its salary in May this year, with a salary increase of 3%-5% and a bonus of at least one month.

It seems that Taiwan shipping companies have been moving faster in raising crew salaries. Evergreen has also implemented a round of salary adjustment of 3% - 5% of all employees since January this year.
