Kawasaki to transfer more shipbuilding business to China

Kawasaki Heavy Industries will transfer more shipbuilding business to China, while Japanese shipyards will focus more on new business directions.
 
The company is preparing to transfer most of its LPG carrier construction business to a joint venture shipyard with Nantong COSCO Khi Ship Engineering (NACKS), while the shipyards in Japan focus more on the development of liquid hydrogen carriers. Kawasaki is a leader in the design of global liquid hydrogen carriers.
 
Kawasaki said that in the next few years all LPG carriers will be built in China, but the engines will be installed in Japan.
 
In addition to its commitments on warships, Kawasaki also stated that Japan’s domestic shipyards will focus on the construction of hydrogen carriers. Over the past few decades, Kawasaki has been a leader in the construction of LNG carriers.
 
At the beginning of this year, the company also launched the world's first liquid hydrogen carrier. At present, the company is ready to design a 160,000 m3 liquid hydrogen carrier.
