The 23,000TEU dual-fuel container ship "CMA CGM SORBONNE", built by China Shipbuilding Trading and Hudong Zhonghua for CMA CGM, was christened and delivered in Shanghai on June 29.

The ship is the fifth 23,000 TEU dual-fuel powered container ship built by Hudong Zhonghua and the last vessel in the nine ship series built by CSSC for CMA CGM.

On September 19, 2017, after fierce market competition, China State Shipbuilding Corporation and CMA CGM signed a contract for the construction of 9 23,000TEU dual-fuel powered container ships, breaking the monopoly of Korean shipping companies in the field of international ultra-large container ships.

Among them, Hudong Zhonghua built 5 ships and Jiangnan Shipyard built 4. Since the delivery of the first ship on September 22 last year, the project has achieved the goal of delivering one ship per month on average, which makes the shipowner amazed.

This type of ship has a total length of 399.9 meters, a width of 61.3 meters, a cargo depth of 33.5 meters, and a deck area of 23,978 square meters, equivalent to 3.5 standard football fields, and more than 60 meters longer than the world's largest aircraft carrier.

The first application of dual-fuel power to ultra-large container ships is a huge innovation. This type of ship is equipped with the world's first W12X92DF marine dual-fuel low-speed engine independently developed by WinGD, a subsidiary of CSSC.

As the world's first ultra-large dual-fuel container ship, its biggest feature is the installation of a unique "green heart"-18,600 m3 MarK Ⅲ membrane fuel tank, which is used to load LNG and provide "green power" to the ship.

The successful conclusion of this series of ships is an important milestone in the history of friendly cooperation between China State Shipbuilding Corporation and CMA CGM, as well as an important achievement of CSSC's high-quality development, which further consolidates its leading position in the field of ultra-large container ships in the world and created a new glory for China's shipbuilding industry.
