Ningbo Containerized Freight Index: In the week ending Apr-16, Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) issued by Ningbo Shipping Exchange (NBSE) quotes 2344.7 points, slightly up by 4.1% against last week. Meanwhile, eighteen of the selected twenty-one routes maintain an upward trend while other three have fallen. In addition, according to the freight indices of the primary ports along the Maritime Silk Road, twelve ports appear a constant rising tendency while other five are declining.
Europe and Mediterranean routes: Near the Labor Day holiday, the loading rate of the European and Mediterranean routes reached full load, and some voyages burst and dumped containers. Freight rates continued to rise. The Mediterranean route had a relatively large increase in freight rates due to its small capacity base. This week, freight index in the route from Ningbo-Europe quotes 3331.4 points, increasing 0.6% from one week ago. Freight indices in the routes from Ningbo to East Mediterranean and West Mediterranean quote 2851.5 points and 3624.0 points, growing by 6.0% and rising by 7.3% against last week respectively.
North America route: Delays in shipping schedules and even outstanding empty shifts caused by the slow flow of destination ports. The shrinkage of transportation capacity has led to unusually tight shipping spaces, forcing some cargo owners to seek shipments through the purchase of high-priced spaces in carriers. This week, freight indices in the routes from Ningbo to East America and West America quote 1779.7 points and 2367.3 points, increasing by 0.2% and climbing by 0.2% from one week ago respectively.
Mideast route: The market demand for transportation was strong, the space gap on the route had expanded, and spot freight index continued to rise. This week, freight index in the route from Ningbo-Mideast quotes 2293.7 points, having a week-on-week increase of 10.8% compared with last week.
Thailand& Vietnam route: Affected by the shortage of containers used by carriers as a whole, some liner companies had begun to restrict the use of high containers on the Thai-Vietnam route, resulting in a tightening of available spaces and a rise in freight rates. This week, freight index in the route from Ningbo to Thailand& Vietnam route quotes 1503.0 points, up by 12.9% against last week.
