The Suez Canal welcomes the largest dredger loaded by China


The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has welcomed "Mohab Mamish", one of the largest dredgers in the Middle East and Africa.
 
"Mohab Mamish" was built and delivered by Royal IHC of the Netherlands, a global dredger builder. It was loaded by the 50,000 dwt semi-submersible vessel "XIANG RUI KOU" of COSCO SHIPPING Specialized Carriers, and arrived in the Suez Canal Lake area on April 12.
 
"Mohab Mamish" is 147.4 meters long, 23 meters wide, 29,290 kilowatts of power, 8,800 tons of gross tonnage, and has a maximum dredged depth of 35 meters, while the Suez Canal has a maximum water depth of 24 meters.
 
"XIANG RUI KOU" has a total length of 216.7 meters, a width of 43 meters and a depth of 13 meters. It has a speed of 14.7 knots and a load capacity of 50,000 tons. The total area of the loading deck is more than 7,000 square meters, which is more than a standard football field. The ship adopts the world's leading power and control technology, equipped with advanced DP 2 dynamic positioning system, and can carry more than 90% of the world's oil drilling platforms and large-scale offshore equipments.
 
Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority of Egypt, said at the ceremony that the dredging vessel, one of the largest in the Middle East and Africa region, will greatly enhance the dredging capacity of the Suez Canal Authority and will help Egypt to carry out dredging projects both at home and abroad.
