Huanghua port's coal shipments hit a record high of 198.59 Mt so far in 2020

Huanghua port's coal shipments as of December 20 this year reached a record high of 198.59 million tonnes, exceeding the annual target by 4.6 million tonnes, state media CCTV reported.

About 80% of the coal produced in China's main producing areas including Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang are transported via coastal ports such as Huanghua to southeastern coastal provinces like Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong and Guangxi.

Huanghua port, one of the main coal transport channels in China, is called an "energy transfer station". It is said that every nine minutes a train loaded with coal arrives in the port and a dozen coal ships depart from it to power plants in southern China each day.

"Taking advantage of Internet and big data to realize seamless connection of coal mines, railways, seaports and airports, we can decrease auxiliary time and increase berth turnover, shortening ship stop time by 2.05 hours or 2.35% year on year and compressing berth waiting time for cargo loading by 51 minutes," said a manager from production command center of China Energy Investment Corporation Huanghua Port Co., ltd..

Data from the China National Coal Association shows that 53.74 million tonnes of coal are stored at major Chinese ports currently, and key coastal power plants have 150 million tonnes of coal stocks, sufficient to use for 23 days, much higher than the alarming line of seven days.
