CDB Leasing's six wholly-owned special purpose companies entered into a ship purchase agreement with the seller on Nov. 16, 2020 to buy six 60,000 dwt bulk carriers with about $137.1 million.
CDB stated that the company has paid a 10% deposit for these ships, and the remaining 90% should be paid when the ships are delivered.
The company said it would charter the ship to Oldendorff at "index-linked rents" after the deal.
The identities of the vessels were not disclosed in the announcement documents, but Oldendorff received a series of ultramax bulk carriers from NACKS and DACKS in the past 12 months.
CDB Said the deal was a win-win situation for both companies and was in line with its business development strategy.
In July, CDB Leasing purchased another three Kamsarmax bulk carriers. The deal involves a bareboat charter agreement with Beibu Gulf Shipping Group, a Chinese company that has extensive chartering agreements with the group.
In May, CDB Leasing also spent $417.6m to build eight 210,000 dwt bulk carriers at three shipyards.
At present, CDB Leasing has a total of about 90 ships, of which three-quarters are dry bulk ships, about 15% are container ships, and there are 3 LNG ships, 2 dredgers and a cruise ship.
