The third webinar in the series The Shipping Market Checkpoint: threats and opportunities in a COVID-19 world, will take place on 11 November from 10:00 CET.

Mark Williams, Managing Director at Shipping Strategy, will join Sand as a guest speaker for the webinar focusing on the container market.

On 10 December from 15:00 CET, Mason Hamilton, Senior Economic and Policy Advisor of the US Department of Energy, will join Sand as guest speaker of the final webinar in The shipping market checkpoint: threats and opportunities in a

COVID-19 world series, this time focusing on the oil tanker market.

Hamilton and Sand will discuss the unbalance of the oil market that causes uncertainty in the oil tanker shipping market. They will also discuss the factors influencing oil exports and imports, as well as the changes brought by the IMO 2020 sulphur regulation.

The webinars will be broadcast live on BIMCO’s YouTube channel where you will have the chance to engage with the analysts, asking whichever questions are on your mind during the Q&A session. These are the last two webinars in a series of four. 6. Mediterranean Bunker Fuel and Shipping Virtual Conference

The overall state of the industry is dominated by the impact of the pandemic. But below the headlines we have seen a lot of different developments in 2020 – What lies ahead for the shipping sector?

Changing trade patterns – caused by increased awareness of the vulnerability of supply chains, as well as economies’ interdependence – is something shipping will most probably have to adapt to in the coming years. The scale of this could be tremendous. The McKinsey Global Institute estimates that 16-26% of global trade could be relocated in the medium term. This would involve some combination of a return to domestic production, near-shoring and shifting to other offshore locations, with a new balance needed between just in time and just in case.

In this context, Sand, will participate at the Mediterranean Bunker Fuel and Shipping Virtual Conference on 26 November from 11:35 CET and share his views on the challenges ahead for the commercial shipping markets, focusing on the current developments dominating the markets and the geopolitical factors impacting the global supply chains.
