COSCO ranked No.1 in the world with orders


Facing the impact of COVID-19 outbreak, COSCO SHIPPING Group has increased its orders to 68 ships, becoming the world's largest holder of orders for the first time.

COSCO SHIPPING Group had orders for a total of 68 2.4m CGT ships by the end of  July this year, ranking first in the world.
In second place was Carnival Group, which had long held the top spot in terms of orders for 16 2.2m CGT ships.

Among them, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers ordered 8 62,000 DWT multi-purpose pulp vessels in COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Dalian); COSCO SHIPPING Energy Transportation has ordered 3 174,000 cubic meters LNG ships in Hudong Zhonghua.

OOCL has ordered five 23000TEU very large container ships in NACKS and DACKS.

Compared with figures at the start of the year, COSCO's orders rose from 53 1.6m CGT at the time to 68 2.4m CGT, jumping from fifth to first in the world. Carnival now has the same number of orders in hand.

With the decline in orders for new ships, the total number of global handheld orders stood at 2,831 70.8 million CGT by the end of July 2020. A year ago, orders totalled 3172 78.9 million CGT.
