Crew Member with COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) Fully Recovers and Ship Resumes Normal Operations

A crew member working onboard a cargo ship which arrived in the Port of Singapore from China was earlier diagnosed to have the COVID-19 infection (Case 10).  Since then, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the National Environment Agency’s Port Health and the Ministry of Health worked together to arrange for the crew member to be treated, the remaining crew onboard the ship to be quarantined for 14 days, and have the ship cleaned and disinfected.

The crew member concerned has since made a full recovery and returned home. The remaining crew have served their quarantine. They remained asymptomatic throughout.

On 12 February, Port Health granted free pratique to the cargo ship after it had met all the health requirements. The ship has departed Singapore after taking stores, supplies and spares at the anchorage.

The Port of Singapore has taken necessary measures against COVID-19.  Cargo and passenger operations remain unaffected with port operations carrying on as normal. MPA reminds the shipping community to continue to stay vigilant and take the necessary precautionary measures. MPA will monitor the evolving situation and work closely with our partner agencies and the industry.
