DNV GL donates RMB 1 million to support COVID-19 relief efforts in China

DNV GL, the risk management and quality assurance company, has donated RMB 1 million to a charity operating at the frontline of the fight against COVID-19.  DNV GL is supporting Shanghai Charity Foundation, which is sending medical provisions across China, including to the heavily impacted Hubei province and its capital Wuhan.   The Shanghai Charity Foundation is a charity organization founded by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Political Consultative Conference and the Shanghai Municipal Government, and is one of the largest charity foundations in China.

“On behalf of DNV GL, I would like to place on record our sincere gratitude to those working on the frontline to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and I hope this donation will support those efforts,” said Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO of DNV GL.  “We are working hard to safeguard the welfare of our employees and minimize the impact to our customers within the framework of the latest medical guidance.”
DNV GL has had a presence in China for more than 130 years and now has more than 1 000 employees working in Greater China. Its first ship surveyor was hired back in 1888 in Xiamen.  DNV GL has followed the guidance of authorities to ensure the welfare of its employees and their families whilst also working with customers to minimize disruption to business.  Despite the difficult conditions, DNV GL employees have shown great flexibility with many working from home and, where possible, continuing to visit the sites of customers, including Qingdao Beihai Shipyard which recently launch the first of a ship series under DNV GL class.

“Our employees have shown tremendous resilience in the face of very difficult circumstances and I am very proud that we can make this donation on their behalf.  We will continue to prioritize the welfare of our employees and work with our customers within the parameters set out by authorities,” said Norbert Kray, DNV GL’s Senior Vice President and Country Manager for Greater China.
