The crew of China's first domestically made polar icebreaker Xuelong 2, or Snow Dragon 2, have made their wishes for the New Year of 2020 on board the vessel.
Xuelong 2 is implementing China's 36th Antarctic expedition.
"We are welcoming the year of 2020 on board Xuelong 2. First of all, I wish our voyage a big success. Wish each of our team members good health and smooth work," said Wang Xiangqin, a team member of China's 36th Antarctic expedition.
"My new year wish is for my child to grow well," said another expedition team member Ju Peng, whose baby wasn't even one month old when he joined the current Antarctic expedition.
"I wish safe and smooth Arctic and Antarctic expeditions by China in 2020," said Xia Limin, team leader of the expedition.
"I hope I can lift my career to higher levels with projects and papers. I wish that my child can be admitted to a good primary school," said Han Xibin, another member.
Hao Junjie, a doctor with Xuelong 2, said: "My biggest wish in 2020 is that all the team members can return to China safe and sound."
"In 2020, I wish that my son and daughter can grow up happily. I wish the polar expeditions in the future can successfully complete every inspection mission arranged by the state," said Lou Fei, a network engineer of the expedition.
Zhang Shouwen, weatherman of the expedition, said he is trying to lose weight of 15 kilograms. "My wish has not come true yet, but it is being implemented, which is losing weight. Now, since I've been here for two months and I've lost about five kilograms. And in the following journey I will stick to this good habit," he said.
"I wish my children healthy growth. I look at their photos every day. I'm not able to spend time with them for now, but I will try to return home as early as possible," said Chen Donglin, a Xuelong 2 sailor.
Principal investigator He Jianfeng of Xuelong 2 said he is hoping for a bigger international role of the vessel. "I've experienced Xuelong 2's growth. In 2020, I hope that Xuelong 2 would play a better role internationally. And I hope I could lead our team towards an international arena," he said.
"In 2020, I just want to have a more stable life. I want to spend more time with my family and my parents. This is the wish not only for 2020, but also for the years to come," said Chi Xiaojie, a flight crew member of the Xueying 301.
"In 2020, I hope China will be strong in terms of polar research. I hope there will be more vessels in Xuelong series such as Xuelong 3, Xuelong 4," said Shao Shen, an expedition team member.
"I hope I can return to China at an early date, and then go back to see my parents. I have been out for about six months, so I feel a bit homesick," said Wang Biao, a sailor of Xuelong 2.
"In 2020, I hope Xuelong 2 will sail better and better. And as we get more and more familiar with it, I hope we can become part of the ship," said Huang Rong, an engineer of the expedition.
