Weak Asia-Europe demand prompts OOCL to blank Aug-Oct sailings

Hong Kong's Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), now a unit of Cosco, has cancelled a number of Asia-Europe sailings owing to low market demand.

The affected services are as follows: the Asia-Adriatic Sea (AAS) that plies the Asia to west Mediterranean trade route. The westbound sailings that have been withdrawn were scheduled to arrive (ETA) at the port of Shanghai on July 31, August 7, August 21, August 28 and September 4.

On the eastbound leg of the service, the carrier has voided the sailings that were estimated to arrive (ETA) at the Italian port of Trieste on September 2, September 9, September 23, September 30 and October 7.

A notice to customers said that for service recovery arrangements, the Asia to east Mediterranean and Black Sea (EM1) sailings that fall on the same week as these blanked AAS sailings will add calls to Koper in Slovenia by the adjusting the port rotation to: Shanghai, Busan, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Port Said West, Koper, Izmit, Ambarli, Constanza, Odessa, Piraeus, Port Said West, Jeddah, Port Kelang, Busan.

The affected EM1 sailings that will call at the ports listed above in the amended rotation are on the westbound leg of the journey, and have an estimated time of arrival at the South Korean port of Busan on August 4, August 11, August 25, September 1 and September 8.
