Spot rates for shipping containers from Asia to northern Europe in the week ending Friday was up five per cent to US$780 per TEU, while the Shanghai-Mediterranean run was up 4.2 per cent to $740 per TEU, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI).
The SCFI recorded a 13.7 per cent surge on the Shanghai-US west coast leg to $1,471 per FEU while China-US east coast rates remained flat at $2,541 per FEU "due to Panama draught restrictions underpinning rates on the trade," reports to London's The Loadstar.
