The Singapore Branch of The Nautical Institute announces speaker line-up for its annual conference
SINGAPORE, 24 April 2019 – The Singapore branch of The Nautical Institute, host of the 2019 Nautical Institute Singapore Conference, announced today confirmed speakers for its annual conference which will take place on 15 May at the Suntec City Convention Centre.

The full-day conference will gather over 150 delegates from various sectors within the shipping and maritime industry.

Themed ‘Dealing with Tomorrow’s Challenges Today’, the conference aims to provide the maritime community with a detailed road map – in preparing for tomorrow’s challenges in today’s changing landscape.

Participants will explore insights on key topics including new requirements and legislation, disruptive technology, cargo issues of today, and the upcoming challenges of loss prevention from a speaker line-up of senior, internationally recognised industry speakers.

Notable speakers include Esben Poulsson, Chairman of International Chamber of Shipping; Wong Kai Cheong, Deputy Director of Shipping Division at MPA; Frank Coles, CEO of Wallem Group; Capt. Leo Vincent, Senior Operations Manager at Jurong Port; Chris Metcalf, Partner at Clyde & Co.; Capt. Hari Subramaniam, Loss Prevention Manager at The Shipowners’ Club; Toby Stephens, Partner at HFW; and Capt. Ian Offland, Safety & Marine Assurance Director at Swire Pacific Offshore.

The Conference also celebrates women in maritime, in line with IMO’s World Maritime Day theme for this year: ‘Empowering Women in the Maritime Community’ where top female industry professionals including Maite Bolivar Klarup, General Manager for BIMCO; Anushka Nair, Claims & Demurrage Manager at Ardmore Shipping; and Monica Park, Chaplain of South Korea for Mission to Seafarers, join our panels to discuss the industry’s concerns from various perspectives - the regulatory requirements, practicality, legal implications, and the impact to both shipowners and seafarers.

Capt. Yves Vandenborn, Honorary Secretary and Associate Fellow of The Nautical Institute (AFNI) said, “With prominent shipping figures leading the discussions at the conference, we hope to produce meaningful engagements and key takeaways for our valued delegates.”

The full line-up of speakers and a detailed programme will be released at a later date on the event’s official website: https://www.nautinst.org/en/events/index.cfm/Singapore-Annual- Conference-2019
