1.The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced further steps it is taking to prepare for IMO’s 0.5% cap on sulphur content in marine fuel coming into force on 1 January 2020.
2.On 18 December, 2018, the naming ceremony for the 49th VLCC ‘New Honor’ of China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) was held at NACKS. Mr Cao Hong, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CMES, attended the ceremony and named the new ship. Mr Chen Gong, General Manager of Nantong KHI, and Mr Masato Mizuno, General Manager of the Japanese shipping company, attended the ceremony.
3.Shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) into Northeast Asia have risen to a record in December, mainly driven by China's continued gasification push, and as the region faces colder-than-usual temperatures this week.
4.China’s Hunan Xiangchuan Shipbuilding Industry has set up a new shipyard and repair base in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province to expand its footprint locally.
5.Nanjing Tanker Corporation, part of Sinotrans & CSC, to relist on Shanghai Stock Exchange.
6.Russia is considering boosting exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to China. The LNG would come from its Sakhalin Island.
7.Taiwan Navigation is developing its kamsarmax fleet. The owner has placed orders in Japan for four 80,000 dwt ships, split evenly between Oshima Shipyard and Namura Shipbuilding. The ships are Tier III compliant and will come with scrubbers when they deliver in 2020. No price has been revealed.
8.The Port of Qingdao in China wants to raise USD 300 million with a listing in January in Shanghai. The capital will be used to expand the port area, reports Lloyd's List.
