OOCL Q3 Volumes and revenue show continued improvement


Following Q2 figures that showed a 4.6% volume increase and a increase in revenue of 4%, Orient Overseas Container Line has again improved year-on-year in Q3.
 
For the the third quarter of 2018, total volumes grew 6.9% year-on-year. Total revenues were up 7% to US$1.56bn, as the loadable capacity grew by 3.9%. The overall load factor was 2.3% higher than the same period in 2017. Overall average revenue remained flat, edging up just 0.1%.
 
For the first nine months of 2018, total volumes increased by 6.3% over the same period last year and total revenues notched up an 8.7% growth. Loadable capacity increased by 7.8%. The overall load factor was 1.2% lower than during the same period in 2017. Overall average revenue per teu increased by 2.3% compared to the same period last year.
 
During the period under review the Asia/Europe trade lane was the star performer where liftings increased 14.5% to 328,788 teu. Revenues increased 6.9% to US$305.34m. Liftings on the Trans-Pacific route grew 9.9% with a corresponding 15.5% in revenue to US$651m.
 
The Trans-Atlantic trade lane fared poorly in comparison, recording a 0.7% growth in liftings and 1.9% increase in revenue to US$132.21m.
