Mandarin Shipping signs up Charles Du Cane

Hong Kong’s leading provider of container feeder tonnage, Mandarin Shipping has appointed Charles Du Cane as business development director to aid the firm’s expansion plans.

Commenting on the appointment, Mandarin Shipping’s chief executive, Tim Huxley said: “With Mandarin Shipping’s fleet of five 1,800 teu container ships now having traded successfully for a year and with Mandarin building up our presence as an Asian feeder container operator, we have been looking to expand the company on a number of fronts, both in terms of attracting new investment and growing our commercial operations.

“Charlie’s experience in Asian shipping and commitment to the region meant that when the opportunity to have him join the team arose, it fitted perfectly with our ambitions to grow the company.”

Mr Du Cane, who previously headed up operations in Hong Kong for Copenhagen-headquartered shipping company, Clipper Group, said:

“It’s a great honour to be working with two of Hong Kong’s best known shipping entrepreneurs as they pilot the next stage of Mandarin’s growth. The Mandarin story is a very convincing one, and it’s exciting to be involved with that next stage of the company. Speaking personally I am delighted to be able to bring some experience to the table for Mandarin, but also to be presented with such a great learning opportunity 13 years after I started in shipping.”

Speaking earlier this year on the prospects for the container feeder sector, Mr Huxley commented, “Our strategy is based on continued growth in intra-Asian trade which has seen much stronger demand for the efficient design of ship Mandarin has, with all five of our ships now employed in the region and playing a core role in the Belt & Road.

“Steady, properly considered growth is something we want to achieve and we maintain a dialogue with potential customers to ensure we are providing the shipping services they need,” he added.
