The Global Maritime Forum’s Annual Summit 2018, to be held in Hong Kong, has lined up a host of some of the top industry leaders, policymakers, experts and NGO’s with the secretary-general of the IMO, Kitack Lim topping the bill. This inaugural event will be held at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal on October 3-4, 2018.
The main theme of the Summit is “Breaking New Ground”
As a key speaker the IMO’s Mr Lim will present his vision for the global maritime industry in 2050. Other key speakers include secretary general of UNCTAD, Dr Mukisha Kituyi, and Hong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam, who will discuss lessons learned from the region’s success as a global trade hub.

“Shaping the future of global seaborne trade will require engagement from all parts of the maritime value chain. Thus, the Summit will convene more than 200 key stakeholders from around the world. Together, they have the breadth and quality of engagement to represent with authority the views and interests of the entire maritime spectrum, The Global Maritime Forum said in a release.
This cross-industry and multi-stakeholder approach aims to challenge the traditional silos within the global maritime industry to strengthen collaboration between all stakeholders and to identify new strategies for tackling long-term challenges and creating new opportunities. The ambition is that the discussions at the Annual Summit will give birth to decisions that make a real difference, not only for the industry, but for society as well.
