Tianjin to implement strictest plan of sea protection

North China's Tianjin Municipality has put forward a plan to reinforce the sea protection.

The plan, which has been worked out recently, includes the strictest management and control measures for sea reclamations.

It will be more demanding for approvals of projects concerning the uses of the sea, according to the plan.

It also calls for more protection for the sea shoreline, while exerting more efforts for ecological protection and restoration of beaches.

The plan requires the natural shoreline is incorporated into the red-line protection initiative for preserving marine ecology.

"Tianjin is at the bottom of the Bohai Bay, with relatively poor hydrodynamic condition and self-purification capability. So, we must control the pollutants from the source and alleviate the discharge of pollutants from the ground into the sea," said Zhang Shiqi, director of marine environment with the Tianjin Oceanic Administration.

According to the plan, Tianjin will accomplish the approval and issuance of pollution discharge permits by the end of 2020. The city will strictly control the discharges of pollutants, and strengthen the comprehensive treatment of industrial pollution, urban sewage treatment, rural sewage and livestock pollution.
