YANG Ming Marine Transport Corp has ordered ten 2,800 TEU vessels from CSBC Corp in Taiwan with delivery slated to commence in the second quarter of 2020.
The carrier said the newbuilds will be well-suited for deployment in most of the major ports in Asia and will be equipped with advanced eco-friendly equipment, reported American Shipper.
The shipping line will take delivery of five 14,000-TEU chartered vessels starting from the fourth quarter of this year and throughout the first half of next year. In addition, it will receive ten 12,000-TEU chartered vessels in 2020 and 2021.
"These neo-Panamax containerships will update our fleet and help to provide efficiency, energy savings and lowered unit costs," Yang Ming said.
In a separate development, Yang Ming has announced a tender for selling 2,301 used reefer containers. The bidding meeting is tentatively scheduled to take place at the carrier's Taipei headquarters on September 4.
The carrier has also just disclosed that it suffered a second-quarter net loss of TWD3.8 billion (US$129.1 million), compared to a net loss of TWD445 million for the second quarter of 2017. It said the results were impacted by higher bunker prices, lower spot rates and oversupply across the industry.
