Worldwide Cruise Terminals, manager and operator of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal achieved a new local record-setting highest throughput day of 15,307 cruise passengers on 15 June 2018.
On the day the Terminal hosted two mega cruise ships simultaneously (Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas and World Dream, owned by Dream Cruises), breaking the last single-day record of 13,327 itinerary cruise passengers on 29 October 2017. Kai Tak Cruise Terminal handled 780,000 passengers in 2017.
Jeff Bent, managing director of Worldwide Cruise Terminals said, “We are delighted to see our cruise line customers obtaining very high load factors at attractive yields. Our operations team now handles five-figure throughput days regularly, and we look forward to the next opportunity to break the record again.”
WCT is also celebrating receiving the biennial CILT Service Excellence Award for small and medium-sized enterprises, from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong.
Upon receiving the award, Mr Bent said “2017 was a watershed year for WCT as we doubled passenger throughput, taking 85% of the Hong Kong market, that is now nearly five times the size of the market when the terminal opened in 2013.
“We take equal pride in the fact that we reduced carbon output per passenger by 52%, and halved cruise passenger slip-and-trip cases in a year when throughput doubled. WCT is honored to receive the CILT Service Excellence Award and will continue to strive to keep Hong Kong at the forefront of transport and logistics.”
WCT received the award during CILTHK’s 50 Anniversary Gala Dinner on 22 June 2018. The Hon Frank Chan, JP, Secretary for Transport and Housing and Mr. Tsang Wing-hang, president of CILTHK, presented the award to WCT.
The biennial CILT SME Service Excellence Award evaluates how transport and logistics companies perform across a number of metrics, including customer satisfaction, environmental stewardship, infrastructure, innovation, operational effectiveness, quality management, and risk management and control. Winners are determined by a five member-judging panel of CILTHK council representatives and industry experts.
