Worldwide Cruise Terminals, manager and operator of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with the Hong Kong University of Professional and Continuing Education programme and the University of Plymouth at the Cruise Terminal on 6 June.
WCT will serve as an external member on the Academic Committee, providing industry input and expert advice for the development and enhancement of HKU’s new top-up degree programme, Bachelor of Science (Honours) Cruise Management, which is the first of its kind in Hong Kong, and will be launched in September 2018.
Jeff Bent, managing director of Worldwide Cruise Terminals said, “I would like to congratulate HKU SPACE and the University of Plymouth for launching this new top- up degree programme. It comes at an opportune time as the cruise industry in Asia reaches new heights, with cumulative annual growth of over 25% from 2013-2017. As managers of the leading cruise facility in the Pearl River Delta, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Worldwide Cruise Terminals is glad to play a wider role in the continued growth of the cruise industry and ongoing enrichment of Hong Kong’s tertiary education.
“We hope that our participation in the collaboration will help provide practical experience, greater insight and an enjoyable learning journey for students, and nurture world-class talent to further develop cruise tourism locally and abroad.” Bent added.
In 2017, WCT handled over 780,000 passenger movements, more than 85% of Hong Kong’s total, and more than the three other Pearl River Delta cruise terminals combined.
