Three Chinese traders who hope the diplomatic breakthrough of U.S.-north Korea can relieve the ban on coal exports from north Korea said that some north Korean traders have sold low-priced coal and stored the goods in ports of north Korean,Reuters reported on May 11.
The official figures shows that China hasn't imported the coal from north Korea since October last year.China imported 22.5 million tons of coal from north Korea in 2016, worth about $2 billion.And Chinese traders said that north Korea's intention to supply China with coal has surged.North Korean traders have thousands of tons of anthracite, hoping to sell for $30 to $40 a tonne, less than a quarter of the price of a similar anthracite in China.
North Korea's coal prices were lower at less than $15 a tonne during the lunar New Year holiday in February, according to traders in northeast China.At present, the price of anthracite coal produced in Shanxi Province is about 160 to 172 dollars per ton.
