The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has signed five memoranda of understanding and two firm agreements at the recent Singapore Maritime Technology Conference (SMTC).
These MOUs and agreements will strengthen Singapore's connectivity, deepen maritime research and development capabilities and create a vibrant innovation culture, said the MPA statement.
"We have partners who strongly believe in digitisation, technology and innovation. These MOUs will help us to take the maritime sector to a new level of development in areas such as automation, data analytics, intelligent systems and cybersecurity," said MPA chief executive Andrew Tan.
Along with support for maritime start-ups, MPA hopes to create an enabling environment for both existing and new players to co-exist side by side as part of a vibrant innovative cluster.
That way, Maritime Singapore will be able to stay ahead of the curve as a world class hub port and international maritime centre, said the MPA."
Held at Marina Bay Sands in conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week 2018 (SMW 2018), this year's conference theme is "Shaping the Future Maritime Industry through Digital Innovation".
More than 40 presentations from 14 countries were made under one roof, covering topics related to prominent maritime and port technology trends and developments. The two-day conference was expected to be attended by over 700 participants from 29 countries.
