The 8,721-TEU CMA CGM Bianca has now become the biggest ship to call in the Cameroon at the Port of Kribi.
This strengthens the French shipping giant's offerings in the region with four new weekly services at Kribi, a hub from which to connect to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon (feeder service).
The opening of Kribi is part of the strategy implemented by CMA CGM chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saade and involves China's global infrastructure plans.
The Kribi container terminal is jointly operated by CMA CGM, Bollore Transport & Logistics and China Harbour Engineering Co (CHEC), a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), providing infrastructure construction, such as marine engineering, dredging and reclamation, road and bridge, railways, airports and plant construction.
CHEC is the second largest dredging company in the world, carrying out projects in Asia, Africa, and Europe and has a 25-year public-private partnership with the State of Cameroon.
There are also new multimodal opportunities from Kribi to reach inland destinations in Cameroon, Chad and Central African Republic.
Marseilles-based CMA CGM also announced the start of its commercial operations at the Kribi Container Terminal, starting with the call of the 335-metre long CMA CGM Bianca.
The CMA CGM Group is deploying four new weekly direct services in Kribi to northern Europe, the Mediterranean and Asia.
