China's biggest container vessel to boost trades along OBOR

China's biggest 20,000 TEU container vessel COSCO Shipping Aries has been applied to practice the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and will boost the trades along the Maritime Silk Road, said Lin Ji, president of the China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO).

Lin made the remarks in an interview with China Central Television after the Aries berthed at the Antwerp Port, Belgium, on Tuesday.

The ship will be used for direct-route services from northern and eastern China and southeast Asia to northwestern Europe, which will strongly support the trades among the countries along the Maritime Silk Road, said Lin.

The COSCO Shipping Aries is 400 meters long, 58.6 meters wide and has a maximum load of 197,000 tons. It is one of the biggest container ships in the world.

Lin said the Aries, delivered in January, is not only a huge container ship, but also designed more environmentally friendly.

"China has the ship's complete intellectual property rights. The ship is not only long and big, but also has the most-leading advantages of energy conservation and environmental protection. We use such an excellent or such an advanced ship to transport goods to the Europe, and practices the Belt and Road Initiative. We hope we can broaden the Maritime Silk Road through our practical action," said Lin.
