1. 0.5% sulphur cap deadline set in stone by IMO. Earlier in January leading shipping and environmental organizations such as the International Chamber of Shipping are lobbying the International Maritime Organization to consider banning the carriage of non-compliant marine fuels when the global sulphur cap takes effect in 2020, in a effort to ensure across the industry compliance.
 
2. China Implements Stricter Regulation on Solid Waste Importation from 2018
With the increasing awareness of environmental protection in China, the Chinese government issued more and more strict regulations to prevent and control pollution, including enhancing solid waste importation control.

3. North China’s Record Low Temperatures and Icy Sea Ask for Special Caution during Navigation. North China is experiencing record low temperatures due to cold climates, especially in recent 2 weeks. Icy sea condition also poses threat to vessels’ safe navigation in this area. 
 
4. On the morning of 2nd Feb., Capt. Xu Lirong, the Chairman of COSCO SHIPPING, met with Mr. Loh Boon Chye, the CEO of Singapore Exchange. The two sides reviewed previous talks and exchanged thoughts on the development of related business.
The General Managers of Capital Management and Operation Divison, PR Division and Research Centre of COSCO SHIPPIING Headquarters have attended the meeting.
